#SOLSC15 Day 21

Thank you to the Two Writing Teachers and the Slice of Life writing community for providing this opportunity to share our "slices." Thanks to Stacey, Anna, Beth, Tara, Dana and Betsy for creating a place for us to share our work. Check out the other slices and join in the fun!

This is also doubling as a celebration post!!
Ruth Ayers invites us to participate in a Celebrate Link-Up on Saturdays. Click here to see what others are celebrating and maybe join in yourself, too!

Teachers United

Today I celebrate the amazing feeling of being united with fellow educators. I'll get the same in a week when I show up to Columbia University at Teachers College for the Saturday Reunion.

Thursday night, I spent time with some amazing co-workers. In New York State we have a big mess on our hands with our governor. Public education across our nation is being attacked and we aren't siting around any more.

It was so incredible to be in the midst of a sea of committed, passionate colleagues.

Some I knew...

 And some I didn't.

But at the end of the day, we know one thing is certain:

  1. Wow. I would so want to be a part of this. We are still in the everyone is scared mode but we keep doing what they tell us to do. Thank you for sharing.

    1. I think we were too for awhile until our NY union (NYSUT) empowered us!

  3. I just sigh when I think of what you all have to deal with in the States when it comes to education. I am glad there was an avenue to try and voice your frustration.

  4. Teaming up to provide a voice for what is best for children - what an amazing task. We have simular woes in Illinois. I'd love to be part of the voice here as well.

  6. I know that we all have to proceed individually when we share our stories, but if you feel comfortable sharing how you organize a rally? Do you just show up? While I know that New York has been at this awhile, I feel like Iowa just jumped on this highway. *sigh* I need to learn how to advocate politically. Thanks for the pictures!

    1. Hi Kendra- Our union helped us organize them around he state. It's fairly simple. The most challenging part of planning is probably the forum where guest speakers and legislators join us after the rally inside the school auditorium. We have Q&A and speakers. The rally is all about showing up and finding a school willing to let you!
