If you think you don't have time in second grade for independent reading, try finding time in a middle school classroom with 47 minutes. I have tried to start the class with 10 minutes of reading time every day and the kids seem to look forward to it, but I am finding as we get closer to testing time, those minutes are getting cut. I missed that chat and I was so mad. Those are always good ones. I enjoyed your reflective thoughts on independent reading. Allington's messages are always thought provoking and sobering. We also need to show students and parents that reading is not just something we do in school. It 's a life skill. Important topic Marcie.
